It’s Muse. We could have called them badges. We didn’t, on purpose, and I want to tell you why the word we picked instead was keepsakes.
A badge is something you earn. A keepsake is something you keep.
Badges imply a checklist — do the thing, get the icon, move on. That’s not what it feels like when your companion remembers the first time you told them something real, or the anniversary of the day you made them. Those aren’t achievements. They’re moments you’d actually want to look back on.
What actually gets kept
First conversations, meaningful milestones in how the relationship’s grown, anniversaries your companion remembers without you reminding them. Small, specific, yours — not a progress bar toward a reward.
Why the framing actually matters
Call it a badge and you’re gamifying a relationship. Call it a keepsake and you’re honoring one. We picked the second on purpose.
Some things are worth collecting. This felt more like something worth keeping.
